U14s Boldmere St Michaels 4 – 2 Almondsbury Town Youth

8.9.07

Goal Scorers: Aiden Crowley, David Goldsmith
Man of the Match: David Goldsmith

Almondsbury started slowly in this first game of the Junior Premier League
season, going down 2-0 within the first 10 minutes, the size and speed of
the Boldmere strikers proving too much for Almondsbury. However, they then regained their composure and concentration and started to play the ball around quickly and accurately. On 16 minutes a good Almondsbury attack was contained by Boldmere who broke quickly and got their 3rd, again the pace of the Boldmere front men beating the Almondsbury back 4.

Almondsbury kept going, knowing that by playing the right way they would ultimately be rewarded. A number of chances came and went, but they got their reward on 35 minutes when David Goldsmith bravely headed the ball round the Boldmere goalkeeper before being wiped out, leaving strike partner Aiden Crowley to fire into the open net.

The second half was almost one way Almondsbury traffic but it took until
the 54th minute for David Goldsmith to round the Boldmere keeper to make it 3-2. Boldmere began to make mistakes under the increased pressure and Almondsbury should have tied the game up with numerous chances, the best a tap in from 3 yards being saved miraculously by the Boldmere keeper.

Again the break was to undo Almondsbury; on 64 minutes a long bouncing
through ball was met by the Boldmere striker who headed over Damian
Freeman to effectively win Boldmere the game. Almondsbury upped the
pressure but couldn’t find a break through in the final 5 minutes, credit
goes to Boldmere who used their strengths extremely well – pace, speed and physical power – that caused Almondsbury many problems over the 70 minutes.
